Psoriasis, Mental Health, and the Gut Connection – My experience
Here is a little something I noticed when doing my research and experimenting on a quest to eliminate my psoriasis…
Psoriasis is often described as an autoimmune condition — and sadly, one that’s considered incurable. However, many individuals have found relief through alternative approaches, including holistic medicine, lifestyle changes, and diet adjustments.
Topical treatments, like tar creams, are commonly used to manage psoriasis symptoms. While some of these products can be expensive, many can be made at home using natural ingredients and simple recipes. Though these solutions can be helpful in the short term, they serve more as a band-aid while the underlying issues are being addressed.
A number of people have seen remarkable improvements by adopting anti-inflammatory diets, low FODMAP, low histamine, gluten-free diets, or even the Lion Diet — which involves eating only meat and salt. These dietary approaches are aimed at reducing digestive stress, with the Lion Diet being the most extreme but often yielding significant results.
In some cases, individuals have successfully managed their psoriasis in just a couple of weeks with no other treatments, including topical creams. While diet can be an effective way to restore balance to the body, it’s been shown that the key factor is often mental health. Poor digestion and life habits can contribute to mental and physical health struggles, and everyone’s experience is unique, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact causes for each person. However, elimination diets and lifestyle changes can bring noticeable relief.
Managing or reducing stress with tools like hypnotherapy, meditation, journaling, and creative expression can be life-changing for some individuals. The most consistent and crucial aspect of healing from psoriasis seems to be improving mental health — even if that change comes as a result of dietary adjustments.
Ultimately, what matters most is not the specific treatment or approach, but that something works to bring relief. By gently exploring changes in diet or lifestyle, we allow our bodies to process the trauma caused by psoriasis and begin to listen to what it truly needs.
While we may not have universal answers for everyone just yet, the most universally acknowledged methods include the elimination diet, detoxification, and a focus on mental well-being.
